Product Description
Sweet Success is a great blend if you're a year round wildlife manager, attracts and holds Turkey and Upland birds big bucks
SWEET SUCCESS IS A GREAT BLEND IF YOU’RE AN ALL AROUND WILDLIFE MANAGER AND HUNTER.
The Sweet Success Food Plot is perfect for a diverse blend of forages for Turkey or Whitetail Deer that holds and attracts big bucks. This customized blend continues to be sought-after throughout the summer and into the fall hunting seasons even into the late season. The taller growing forages of Milo and Millets provide food above the snow line in the winter for Turkeys to feed on (Deer will also eat the seed heads because they are high in carbs)
It is a fine blend of Perennial Clovers and Annual Turnip, Brassica, Milo and Millet seeds for planting in open areas that have good soil moisture and easily workable land. Sweet Success contains 67% Annuals and 33% Perennials and should be overseeded with Amplified the second year to maintain a lush perennial plot for years to come.
The Rack Stacker Guy (Steve Elmy) prefers to plant this blend in bigger open areas. It’s a blend that provides food and cover for all the animals that will come to it throughout the year. When sitting in a stand you can see down into the plot and still have a shot, deer really like the cover that it provides and will bring them out more often during the daytime hours. If you’re looking for an all-around great plot for every benefit this is it!
6 PS
Before planting you MUST follow the Rack Stacker 6 Ps to plotting. Proper, Preparation, and Patience, Prevents, Poor, Plotting.
If you follow these instructions (also on the back of the bag) and don’t cut any corners, it will grow for you and produce great results throughout the summer, into fall and for late season hunting so you can harvest that buck of a lifetime and get the fawns into the winter in good health.
PLANTING TIME
Best time to plant Sweet Success is in the early parts of the summer as long as there is good moisture in the soils. You can plant into the summer if you have sufficient rain in the area but the ideal time would be late May and into June. Steve has planted in August for lush green growth for the early hunt, but your best to try and get it in early, (late June) if you live in the northern regions of Saskatchewan, Alberta or other northern provinces. Southern areas like Quebec, South Ontario or Nova Scotia you can plant right into late August.
PREPARATION
You really want to make the best seed to soil contact as possible when planting Sweet Success. Spraying the plot with a herbicide is best, you don’t want weeds competing for moisture and nutrients on the field with Sweet Success. After spraying, using a set of disks, plows or cultivators work the ground. As long as you have something that can scar the ground enough to allow the seed to have good seed to soil contact then you will be successful with Rack Stacker Sweet Success. Before seeding down your plot you want to drag the soils as level as possible. The smoother the soils the better to prevent channeling during the rain and keep the birds from eating your seeds. You don’t want to plow the seeds under. You only want to make the seed hit the ground, and then pack it to the ground with a roller or a culti-packer. Its important to do this step!! Its like insurance for your plot. By pushing out all the air pockets you’re insuring a quick germination and fast growth as soon as the seed hits the ground.
TIME NEEDED
If you spray 2 weeks prior to working the land, we can have it in the ground, (disking, dragging, seeding and packing) in 4 hours for a half acre by taking these steps, that’s a lot of food available for your herd throughout the year. Remember that the following spring, you will need to overseed the area with Amplified. This will make it a 100% perennial food plot.
SEEDING RATE/ COVERAGE
We offer the Sweet Success food plot for Canada in 5lb, 20lb bag, and 50lb bags. Using a hand broadcast spreader 5lbs will plant ½ acre. 10lbs per acre is recommended.
CALCULATING SQUARE FOOTAGE
Measure the location of your plot. Length multiplied by Width divided by 43,560 that will give you the size of your plot (Ex. 148ft X 148ft= 21,904sq ft is approx 1/2 of an acre) you will be able to plant 21,780sq ft (1\2 acre) with a 5lb bag of Sweet Success. Be sure to plant the right amount of seed for that area that you are working with. Don't over seed it otherwise the seeds will have to compete with each other. If you have extra seed, keep it aside and plant in a different location. Store in a cool dry place until next time. 50 X 50 Yards = 1\2 acre
Try a lb of Big Uns Radish with Sweet Success as well. It wont change the seed rate, just add more good ness for the deer come fall.
FERTILIZER
Its recommended that you fertilize 3-4 weeks after planting the plot. 300lbs of fertilizer to the acre to get maximum growth of 18-18-18 (or equivalent %) sometimes what we like to do is split that up to two different applications. 150lb of 18-18-18 2-3 weeks after seeding and 150lbs approx 6-8 weeks after seeding this will quickly improve nutrient absorption in your plot and rapidly grow throughout the summer months. Driving on the plants to fertilize is ok, they will bounce back pretty quick.
MAINTENANCE
Nothing needs to be done after laying the seed on your plot (outside of fertilizing). There is no annual maintenance needed the first year that you plant Sweet Success. The second spring after planting this plot you should mow the dead debris (annuals from the year before) down, and overseed the plot with Amplified, also available from Rack Stacker. The second year after seeding it down you will want to mow it down, cut the plot to about 4-6 inches. We like to mow ours every 4-6 weeks. This will stimulate plant growth and allow the plot to grow in thicker, healthier and more nutritious for the herd and other wildlife. If you don’t choose to overseed the plot you can start from the beginning and work the land again planting another variety.
BENEFITS
